How to pick your grind:
One of the most important factors in creating a consistently excellent cup of Kokoda Coffee is the grind.  When tasting coffee, traditionally, it must be tasted black, without any additives like milk and sugar.  That being said, if you always drink your coffee with a specific amount of milk and sugar, for example, "White with one", then by all means test it like that to double check the taste is correct for your pallet.

The basic rule of thumb for selecting your grind is as follows:

Grind is too fine
Bitter tasting coffee, thick or tar like consistency, very thick and clingy crema

Grind is too coarse

Sour or watery tasting coffee, thin consistency, little or no crema

What you want is a lovely smelling cup of coffee that has a adequate crema (just covers the coffee and isn't too thick).  The flavour may have a very slight bitter taste as coffee is inherintly bitter, but the aftertaste must NOT be bitter.  The sign of a good coffee, and a well setup machine is the aftertaste.  If there is any thing other than the taste of an excellent coffee on your pallet 5 minutes after you finished your cup, something wasn't right.
With Kokoda Coffee, there should not be any bitter aftertaste at all.  If you are getting a bitter aftertaste, please contact us to see if we can help you correct your machine's setup.

You may have to make an adjustment and then make yourself another cup to try and put your finger on it.  Maybe another few cups after that...

No two coffee machines are the same, in terms of the grind that they use.  The age of the machines, the type and mineral content of the water used, the coffee and the grind all make for slightly different setups.
